Philly now has its very own posh pet hotel. Jenee Mazzu has opened Mazzu's Canine and Feline Hotel in Old City. Prices range from $60 a night for a kitty cat to $185 for a suite. The price includes three walks and all the dvds you can watch. Room service that boasts filet mignon(!) is also available as well as a pet spa. Mannies and peddies, anyone?

We did it, folks! The Philly Pug Meet-Up Group is the largest in existence with 1042 pug lovers! Despite the thunder and lightning, 30 or so diehard pugs partied on Saturday for a NBC channel 10 camera man and was featured that night on the 6pm news. Congrats to our Meet-Up uber-organizer, Bonnie Maurer!

Every year, Buffy and I visit New Jersey's Island Beach State Park. I chase the waves lapping against the shore while Buffy sunbathes. In this week's New Yorker, Malcolm Gladwell (The Tipping Point) profiles Cesar Millan, the host of National Geographic's "Dog Whisperer." Apparently, humans have shaken up the natural order of things and don't allow dogs to be dogs. Instead, well-meaning but misguided animal lovers assign dogs human attributes and abilities...like, um, writing blogs and stuff. Pet Casting Call: A nationwide search is happening now through May 29 for a new "spokesdog" for Old Navy stores. In the late 90s, Old Navy featured its beloved pooch, Magic, and now they want to find a new Magic to star in their holiday 2006 advertising campaign and make history. U.S. and Canadian dog owners can enter photos of their dogs and a personality profile at www.oldnavy.com/magic or attend one of four casting call events in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and New York City. Then a panel of celebrity judges including Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy), Alfre Woodard (Desperate Housewives), Malcolm David Kelley (Lost), Kristin Chenoweth (The West Wing and RV), Betty White (The Golden Girls) and dog trainer Andrea Arden will select six dog finalists who will be showcased in more than 950 Old Navy stores. From June 23 through July 7, people can vote for their favorite dog star.

This month's pug meet-up was a bit overwhelming for a anxiety-ridden pug like me. Who knew so many people read the Philadelphia Inquirer? Particularly alarming to me was the number of humans carelessly leaving the gates open! My sister, Buffy, is not very bright and has been known to run like the wind when she tastes a bit of freedom. Please, people, celebrate with us but be cautious! Regulars at the puppy park know to keep the outside gate shut when the interior one is opened. And another thing, leave the strollers home. I'm not hating on ya. I just want everyone to be safe.
